Can you believe it almost that time again? School is just around the corner! The first few days can be difficult but are super important! It sets the foundation for the rest of the year. I try and keep the first day fun but also get all the not so fun stuff out of the way too.
The first day students will find their groups that they will be in for about 3-4 weeks. They will work through these different stations in those groups. This will help build a community within their groups so when it comes time for content group work they will be more willing to talk! I might have two spots for each station, depending on how many groups I have!
Seating Chart: Over the last 3 years I have tried a variety of seating chart templates. The trick is we move rooms so I focus more on the groups then the location. I went from drawing on notebook paper to just typing names on a word document and more. But I could never stick to it or really visualize my groups. So, I created a template that will allow me to easily move names, visualize them, and its cute to hopefully keep me engaged! Also added numbers to set on tables in case I don't want certain groups by each other and also find their groups easier. If you are like where I am you can get the template here!

Stations:
Syllabus Brochure: I was getting tired of the same old same old syllabus. I wanted to create something different and fun that students wouldn't mind exploring on their own! My plan is to have students go through with the brochure with their group and talk about the important parts. Each group will need to write down 2-3 facts and at the very end each group will share. Just to make sure everything was covered and looked at! Want a syllabus brochure click here!

Name Tag Info: This and the seating chart helps me learn the students names and interests. This gives my creative students have a chance to show their skills and thrive! Want all the info I have students put on it, click here!

Rapid Fire Questions: In groups students are going to pair up, if needed groups of three. They are going to ask each other the questions on the worksheet and fill it out as they go! One step in building group community but also helps my students who don't like whole group get to know you activities. Here is the worksheet!
Would You Rather Questions: Students are going to take turns reading a would you rather question, then each group member will share their answers. Hopefully this will lead to discussions if they answers aren't the same! Again help building that communication and community. Want the would you rather cards, click here!
Google Form Get to Know You: I have done this since my first year teaching and it was one of my favorite ways to gather information and have it all saved in one spot! At this station they will fill this out to help me learn about them as learners and people. If you want an idea of what to include here is the one I use!

If you are loving this station ideas, or love everything to math like me, here is the link to my bundle so you can save money! If you try any of these in your classrooms please leave a comment on what you think!! Good luck with your school year!
Thank you!
